Welcome to Kinship.Studio Yoga where classes are designed and delivered by Sally Jean Rankin.

Sally aims to create calming transformative spaces combining a mixture of Ashtanga/Vinyasa Flow Yoga with deeply relaxing meditations and Yoga Nidras. Classes are tailored to suit all levels and abilities, you can expect a very definite flow to each class peaking with dynamic poses and sealing practice with a deeply relaxing Yogic “sleep”. Private tuition is available upon request, please pm me for details. Sally holds a degree in Jewellery Design and Making and is a qualified Ashtanga Yoga instructor training with the Classical Yoga School in Scotland.

What is Yoga

Yoga is an ancient art and science that has evolved over thousands of years, consisting of seated and standing postures called asanas and breathing techniques called pranayama that effectively and efficiently bind, or connect, the mind, body and breath together to collectively form a moving meditation. The postural sequences and breathing techniques combined create space in the body, energising, lengthening and stretching it whilst bringing about space in the mind, reducing stress and promoting a calm sense of self. 


What are the benefits of Yoga? 

Practicing Yoga is said to come with many benefits for both mental and physical health, multiple studies suggest that Yoga is a safe and effective way to reduce the secretion of cortisol, the primary stress hormone therefore promoting relaxation and stress reduction, we all want that don’t we?! There too, is quite a bit of research that Yoga can help not only reduce stress, (the NHS have a whole page dedicated to the benefits of Yoga) it can:


Relieve anxiety

Reduce inflammation

Improve heart health 

Improve bone health

Reduce your blood pressure

Help with depression

Reduce chronic pain

There are many different traditions of Yoga, I teach quite a dynamic form of Yoga called Ashtanga/ Vinyasa flow. I LOVE teaching Yoga, it is an honour and a joy to witness the many benefits the ancient practice brings to people’s lives. As  A.A.Milne once said;
